From Coil to Doormat

From one long piece of natural manila rope we create our Seven Seas door mat. We pass the rope around and through the seven times. Then we hand sew the outer passes with waxed twine using a sailmaker’s palm. The stitches keep the mat neat and shipshape.

One of our favourite views from the post run, when the weather is fine. The name of this body of water is Carrick Roads, which is the name sailors gave to the Carrick Knot, maybe as a reminder of home. This rope basket is formed from a Carrick Mat Knot.
